About

This isn’t a biography. It’s an explanation.

Why one person ended up seeing businesses the way most people can’t — and why she can’t switch it off.

I started in finance. But I never really saw numbers as numbers.

I saw mechanisms. Cause and effect. Inputs producing outputs. Systems behaving exactly as they were designed to behave — even when nobody remembered designing them that way.

Eventually I realised that is how I see businesses too.

Numbers don’t perform. They don’t protect anyone’s feelings, and they don’t repeat the story the leadership team has agreed to tell itself. But the numbers were only ever half the story. The other half was sitting in the room: the people. How decisions really get made. What everyone knows but nobody says. Where the founder ends and the business is supposed to begin — and doesn’t.

Read the two together and something happens. The symptoms stop being separate problems. They resolve into one pattern — the way a diagnosis resolves a list of complaints.

Nobody would call me an engineer. But I think like one.

II Why businesses

Businesses fascinate me because they’re honest — even when their owners can’t be.

A business is a machine that turns decisions into outcomes. Whatever is really going on — in the structure, in the leadership, in the founder — the business will faithfully express it.

Outputs never lie.

That’s why I naturally look beneath symptoms. Not out of contrarianism — out of respect for how systems behave. A recurring problem is never an accident. It is being produced, reliably, by something.

Find the something, and twenty problems collapse into one.

I don’t sit neatly inside one business discipline, because business problems don’t. One problem. Multiple lenses. One accountable point of view.

I’ve seen a lot of businesses. I stopped being surprised a long time ago. What I haven’t stopped being is curious — because every business is the same kind of mystery, and a different mystery, at once.

“I had no idea if I was really moving forward in my business. And then my session with Jess was amazing… I started the year feeling confident.”

The short version

People don’t hire me because I know more. They hire me because I see differently.

If something in your business doesn’t add up — and you’ve run out of obvious explanations — that’s usually my cue.
